Retinopathy of Prematurity

Retinopathy of prematurity is a potentially sight-threatening condition that affects premature infants, particularly those born before 31 weeks of gestation or with a birth weight less than 1500 grams. ROP occurs when abnormal blood vessels grow and spread throughout the retina, leading to scarring and detachment of the retina if left untreated. In severe cases, ROP can result in blindness.
